The St. John Fisher men’s basketball team defeated Elmira College in their final regular season home game, 75-63. This was crucial a victory as the Cardinals clinched the Empire 8 regular season title, giving them home court advantage in the E8 Conference tournament.
Cardinals senior Keegan Ryan saved one of his best performances for last with a career-high 33 points. Despite no other players for Fisher reaching double figures in scoring, it was a team effort as they shot a lopsided 20 of 23 from the free throw line in comparison to the Soaring Eagles’ 8 of 9.
Elmira was led by Hayden Harkins who had a season high 21 points and 6 rebounds. Henry Cuffee chipped in with his 15 points and 7 rebounds. With the loss, Elmira drops to 3-21 overall and has the worst record in the Empire 8 with a 1-14 standing. Fisher now stands at 18-5 on the season and 13-1 in the conference.
The Cardinals will wrap their regular season up with two road match-ups at Stevens Institute of Technology and Hartwick. This trip will be no easy task, as the Hawks are the reigning conference champions, and Fisher has not beaten the Ducks on their home court since the 2009-2010 season.
