The St. John Fisher men’s and women’s basketball teams defeated the Utica Pioneers on its Saturday slate.

It was a good day of basketball for both teams with both notching another conference victory to their record. They have been playing very consistently since the turn of the new year and improved their play with the in-conference schedule.

The Fisher men defeated Utica College in former assistant coach Sean Coffey’s return to
Pittsford, 78-63. Cardinals senior Keegan Ryan lead the team with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Two sophomores had solid games too as Jake Haight and Ryan Henderson had 10 points. Utica’s Ivan Iton led the Pioneers with a tough 13 point, three rebound and eight turnover effort.

The game was interesting late, but the Cardinals were up majority of the game building a 22-point lead at halftime. With this crucial win, Fisher remains in first place in the conference standings with a 10-1 mark and an overall record of 15-5. The Utica Pioneers drop to 6-5 in conference play with a 6-14 record overall.

The Fisher women’s basketball team also defeated Utica College at home 67-57. The game
was very close and the Cardinals pulled away with a victory thanks to Fisher freshman Chelsea Repard’s career high 23 points and 6 of 9 shooting from beyond the arc.

Fisher sophomore Erin Hulbert netted 11 points, while Nicole Robinson pulled down 14 boards. Utica’s Ashelyne Babb led the Pioneers with 20 points.

Both Cardinal teams get back in action on Tuesday Feb. 7 when they host the Alfred Saxons.
