Cardinals show toughness against No. 7 Wooster

Fisher’s men’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season to The College of Wooster on Nov. 27 after starting the season with three consecutive wins.

Fisher’s 2016 team is lead by juniors and seniors, including senior All-American Keegan Ryan, who lead the team to victory against SUNY Oneonta, totaled 19 points and 13 rebounds against Wooster.

Fisher’s first game of the of the season ended in an 100-75 victory against SUNY Poly in a high scoring game on the road. Ryan started his season by earning a career high of 30 points, while junior Alex Sausville wasn’t far behind with 29 points.

Fisher’s first home game of the season was a close 77- 73 victory over Hobart College. Freshman Dennis Hare stepped up his game with two clutch three pointers late into the second half.

The next game against SUNY Oneonta secured and improved Fisher to a 3-0 record to start the season, as the Cardinals took home a 80-75 point. Oneonta made a near comeback after losing 42-27 before the half, bring the score to 73-71 with just over a minute of play left. However, Fisher was able to defend its lead after a series thundering dunks by sophomore Jake Haight.

Fisher’s ability to stay strong until the end of the game gave them hope against The College of Wooster, ranked 7th nationally according the newest Division III basketball poll.

Fisher was able to keep up with Wooster’s pace in the first quarter, going to the locker room trailing just by six points. In the second quarter, Wooster’s strong defensive coverage forced Fisher to take more contested shots. This did not bode well for the Cardinals missing 25 percent of their shots, which allowed Wooster to run away with a ten point victory of 85-75.

Next, Fisher prepares for the Mark’s Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout where the team will take on both University of Rochester and RIT on Friday and Saturday night held at Nazareth College. Both games will be at 6 p.m. with the first being tonight against Rochester.
