Fisher field hockey goalkeeper Ashley Maynard has made a loud and impactful statement on the field and has sent a point across to the entire Empire 8 and beyond: that making history is the name of the game this year.

And that’s exactly what she’s done.

“I love being able to make a positive impact on my team and contribute to our success,” Maynard said.

The Cardinals have officially seen their 14th straight victory this season and have been anchored by the sophomore all year long. Maynard has been awarded Defensive Player of the Week and ECAC DIII North Defensive Player of the week, all while leading all of Division II in save percentage and goals against average.

“Receiving these awards is such an honor and it feels great to be recognized for all my hard work,” said Maynard. “I typically set pretty high expectations for myself going into each game, and preparation is everything.”

“My coaches and teammates have played a huge role in my success and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. I have a truly amazing and talented group of girls in front of me and they deserve these awards and acknowledgements just as much, if not more than I do.”

Maynard prides herself the most on being a good, humble teammate with a positive attitude who puts the well-being of those around her before her own.

“My coaches and teammates have played a huge role in my success and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them,” said Maynard. “I have a truly amazing and talented group of girls in front of me and they deserve these awards and acknowledgements just as much, if not more than I do.”

She believes that regardless of the situation, she always needs to keep a positive attitude throughout every practice or game, and that this positivity will bleed throughout the entire team, adding to their success.

“I have full confidence in my coaches and teammates that we can add to our repertoire of successes and win this year’s tournament,” said Maynard.

After all, making history is the name of the game.
