After a loss against SUNY Geneseo, Fisher volleyball only needs one more victory over the weekend to clinch a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship.
The Cardinals put up a tough fight on Wednesday, Oct. 19 against SUNY Geneseo but fell short losing three sets to two. This leaves the Cardinals with a 10-15 record with only a few games left of their season.
“We had a rough start in the beginning of the season, but we worked hard to turn it around,” said junior Amanda Miller. “We have been doing really well in our conference matches, we are currently 4-2 and we beat a team that we haven’t for a few years with ease. So I’m really excited for the games to come.”
After coming out of the non-conference RIT Invitational with more loses than wins, Fisher was defeated in the first set 25-17, but made a strong comeback in the second. The Cardinals never trailed the Knights in the second set winning 25-22 with the help of kills from Miller, Katie Mazierski, and Anna Marcy.
Falling short again in the third set 25-14 left, the Cardinals were hungry for revenge going into the fourth. Starting off strong with a 9-3 run that built to an 18-10 lead over the Knights left the obvious winner for the set to be Fisher 25-19. However, the Cardinals ran out of gas in the fifth and final set of the match 15-5.
“The matches where we struggled most is where we had a lack of confidence and focus,” said Miller. “So if we can fix those to things it would lead to greater success in our last few games.”
The Cardinals played again on Saturday Oct. 22 at Alfred University for a tri-match. Fisher will play the Steven’s Ducks at 2:30 p.m. and then the Alfred Saxons at 7 p.m.
