Fisher’s mens soccer has had a rough start to the 2016 season thus far. After a hard fought 2-0 loss to fellow Empire 8 foe Stevens Institute of Technology, the Cardinals are 1-7-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The team’s only win came against Hobart College 3-1 on September 6 with freshman Jeff Meyers scoring two goals.  The tie was against Clarkson University with Meyers scoring the lone goal for the Cardinals. He leads the team this season with five goals.

Fisher had a tightly contested loss against 10th-ranked University of Rochester 2-1, providing some optimism of the progress the team is making.

With that said, the Cardinals have struggled to score with only eight goals on the season. However, the Cardinals have been playing solid defense, and goalkeeper Joe Catalfamo has made some great saves with 42 saves in nine games.

The coaching staff remains hopeful that there is a lot of potential on this team, but it just hasn’t been able to connect all the puzzle pieces together.  Fisher has the potential to finish strong with still seven games left on the season, five of which are Empire 8 games.

While the Cardinals will most likely have difficulty making it to postseason play, the goal is to build momentum heading into the 2017 season. Fisher will travel down East Avenue to face Nazareth College on October 1 at 12 p.m.
